Porcelain Inlays & OnlaysBeautifying Your Smile With Virtually Undetectable RestorationPorcelain inlays and onlays are custom-made, created from specially formulated and highly durable dental porcelain which matches your tooth color. Inlays and onlays are permanently bonded to the tooth for added strength creating a virtually undetectable restoration! When Are Porcelain Inlays or Onlays Applied? They are used to restore smaller cavities or replace old composite or silver (amalgam) fillings. Unlike amalgam fillings, which can cause further damage to the tooth's structure over time, inlays and onlays actually reinforce, as well as improve tooth structure. The real difference between an inlay and onlay is size. Inlays are used down between the cusps of your teeth. Onlays repair larger areas and can cover the tips or cusps of your tooth. An onlay is utilized when the area of decay or damage is too large for a filling, but not so large that a dental crown is needed. Porcelain inlays & onlays offer a superior fit, excellent tooth color, a safeguard for the structure of the tooth, and added protection by strengthening the stability of the weak tooth.
