![]() While most of us know that cavities can form on the surfaces of our teeth, we often don't think about what is going on between them. Unfortunately, this is a big mistake, as food particles that are covered in bacteria can easily lodge themselves in these tight spaces, and if they aren't removed, decay can result. So, what can you do about these potential problems between your teeth? Well, the most obvious solution is to floss your teeth. No one enjoys flossing, but it is imperative that you do so at least once a day in order to remove food particles, debris, and bacteria that love to hide out there. Flossing is the only way that you'll remove a majority of the plaque and bacteria found between your teeth. Unless you make flossing a priority, your mouth won't be completely clean. Flossing on your own will go a long way in keeping your teeth cavity free, but you'll also need to see your dentist regularly. Once plaque has had a chance to harden into tartar, no amount of brushing or flossing will be able to remove it. Your dentist and hygienist will use specialized tools in order to get it off completely in order to prevent cavities and decay. Your dental appointment is also important for the purpose of taking X-rays. If a cavity is developing in between the teeth, your dentist might not be able to detect it with a simple exam. An X-ray can help to determine if any interdental cavities are present, allowing your dentist to provide a diagnosis and determine a good treatment plan. Contact our dental office today for an appointment if you want to ensure that your teeth are healthy and free from decay. |
