Oral saline rinses are a great way to clean out the mouth, and they can also speed up and facilitate healing if you have a canker sore, just had some type of oral surgery, or have a cut on the inside of your mouth. Luckily, if you are in need of a saline solution, you don't have to go to your pharmacy to spend money on one - you can make your own! What You'll Need Making an oral saline solution is simple, as you only need three ingredients:
Making Your Oral Saline SolutionAfter you have your ingredients together, bring the water to a boil for ten minutes, or until it is rolling. After it has boiled, allow it to cool until it is comfortable enough to rinse with. Once it has cooled, add the salt and baking soda, stirring gently so that both dissolve completely. The total time needed to make this solution is only about 12 minutes. You should be sure to make a fresh batch any time that you need it - never reuse oral saline rinses. Using Your Saline SolutionUsing an oral saline solution is simple - just swish the solution in your mouth for at least 30 seconds. Once you are done, spit it out rather than swallowing it. While the solution is safe if accidentally consumed, it is better to spit it out.Rinsing out your mouth two or three times a day with an oral saline solution can help to relieve pain and discomfort in your mouth because it will act as an antiseptic. This means that bacteria will be removed from an infected area while reducing alkalinity within the mouth. Enjoy the great oral health benefits of saline solution by making your own.
